Singing is muscular.

What sounds like magic onstage is built through coordination and practice in the voice studio.

As a singer, your instrument may be hidden from view, but it is still physical. Musical theatre can ask for speech, twang, belt and operatic sounds, sometimes within the same role or even song.

Each sound is created by structures in the body that you can learn to feel and control. Like an athlete learning a complex physical skill, you can train those coordinations so that the sounds are available when you need them.

Private Voice Training

One-to-one lessons built around your voice, your goals and what you want to be able to sing.

Technique gives you choices. We develop access to more of your voice, then bring those choices into the songs you sing and the performances you’re preparing for.

From technique
to expression.

Musical theatre asks your voice to shift in an instant. The sound, style and emotional demand can change within a single phrase.

Science-informed voice training lets us build fluency from the inside. You learn to create a sound, feel how you made it in your own body and understand why it worked, so you can call on it deliberately when you need it. The professional sound you want no longer has to be a happy accident.

Technique gives you access.

It means more of your whole voice is available to you, so you can make stronger acting choices and let the sound follow the story.

His students have a really strong understanding of their material, make thoughtful performance choices, and are incredibly receptive to direction. You can tell they’ve been taught not just how to sing well, but how to communicate a character and tell a story through their voice and performance.

A RHYTHM TO YOUR LEARNING

A year in the studio.

Your year in the studio has been thoughtfully designed to help you grow.

Scot Hall addressing singers and families at a studio showcaseSome things can only be learned onstage.

We work together every week.

Your private lesson is the steady centre of your training. We develop your voice, build a performance repertoire that belongs to you and keep gaining momentum towards the roles, stages and challenges ahead.

We increase the pace for the big moments.

When an audition, role or performance demands more from you, we add intensive coaching and give you the extra time and attention to perform at your best.

We build performance into the calendar.

Two beautiful studio showcases mark milestones each year. Your own concerts, auditions, exams and competitions shape the months between them, because performing is part of how you learn.

We create your artistic portfolio.

Over the year, we build the professional materials that support your next steps: actor headshots, performance recordings, a current résumé and repertoire book, ready for drama school applications and auditions.

Good mentorship
is personal.

The studio is a beautiful, dedicated teaching space in Cambridge, connected to our family life in the house next door. Over time, you become part of our family’s life too.

You’ll meet my wife, Kimmy, and my kids, Max and Phoebe. We’ll be crossing our fingers as you walk into an audition and waiting for the text afterwards to hear how it went.

We’ll become characters in one another’s lives, sharing weeks of steady progress, challenging songs, exciting news and the achievements you’ve been building towards.

That relationship matters enormously to me.

“

My biggest gain from working with Scot is the range of options I now have in my voice. I no longer have to shy away from pieces of a particular style or genre because my voice wouldn’t allow me to sing it with the right technique. I have grown an immense amount of confidence in my vocal ability, and am able to sing repertoire that I never thought I could.

Through learning with Scot, I’ve gained an understanding of the actual mechanics of my voice and what’s happening in there. I can now produce sounds I could only dream of as a young musical theatre geek!

Scot reconstructed my concept of singing and took me on a completely different route from what I was used to. After only a few months with him, I landed the lead role of Elle in Legally Blonde. His mentoring gave me the extra momentum to relocate to London and chase my dreams in musical theatre. Even in London, with all the singing teachers available, I would love to continue lessons with Scot.

Every lesson was a new and exciting journey. It was so rewarding to understand the technicalities of my voice, while gaining the freedom to find my own style and blossom into a more comfortable performer.

Scot enabled me to hit notes I could never imagine and sing songs I didn’t think were possible. Singing in front of people had always terrified me, but with his encouraging guidance I was able to face that fear and perform in recitals and productions, including the lead role of Bonnie in Bonnie & Clyde. He led me to pursue a career in the performing arts, and I am forever grateful.

After a 10-year hiatus, I knew I wanted to get back on stage and perform, but I didn’t know how to get there. Scot helped singing feel instinctive again. Auditions are still nerve-wracking, but now, as soon as I open my mouth to sing, I feel at ease. Since then, I’ve performed in front of, and even alongside, people I’ve admired in this community for decades. It genuinely feels like coming home.

At your initial consultation in Cambridge, we’ll talk about your singing and the goals ahead. We’ll explore your voice, do some practical coaching you can take into your practice and see whether the studio feels like the right fit.

Tell me a little about you.

What are you singing? What are you working towards? What would you love to have more of your voice available for?

Thank you. Your enquiry is safely with me. I’ll read it personally and reply with the best next step for your voice and goals.
