About Scot

I just love musical theatre.

I always have.

There is nothing more magical to me than being in a dark theatre with brilliant people, speaking quietly while we solve enormous problems together.

Directors, designers, choreographers and performers each bring their craft to the room. My contribution has always begun with the voice.

After years of teaching, directing and performing, I’m still filled with wonder at how skill, imagination and trust combine to make an extraordinary moment happen.

Performer and director

I’ve been on both sides of the casting table.

I’ve been the performer preparing the audition and carrying the role night after night.

I’ve also been the director casting the show, hoping the right person and the right voice will walk into the room.

The performers directors cannot stop thinking about are not simply lucky. Their craft is so available that they can stay completely inside the moment. Technique is not the interesting part for the audience. It is what gives their artistry the freedom to be seen.

The voice teacher

This is the work I love most.

I’ve specialised in working with musical theatre voices for sixteen years, and it has never stopped lighting me up.

Estill Voice Training® gave me a way to understand what is happening inside a sound. It can feel a little like seeing the code beneath the voice: what is moving, what is helping and what we might change.

I’ve also been fortunate to receive ongoing mentorship from Anne-Marie Speed, Head of Voice and Spoken Word in Musical Theatre at the Royal Academy of Music and one of the world’s leading voice, singing and dialect coaches. I’m currently working towards certification as an Estill Master Trainer.

I keep a small boutique studio of singers I absolutely love teaching. We share a love of musical theatre done at the highest level, and a real commitment to one another.

Beyond the studio

A little more personally.

I’m a husband and dad, and the studio is part of our family home. Over time, students become part of that family too.

The relationship doesn’t stop when the lesson ends. We celebrate the casting news, weather the disappointments and become part of one another’s lives.

That relationship matters to me tremendously.
