The Actor’s Voice
(Schools Workshop)
An actor's most powerful tool for expression is their voice.
Training the actor's voice gives them access to all of the colours of their voice on demand.
Because 'natural' is what your practice
This workshop lets young actors experience all of the ways their voice can communicate their inner life.
They integrate vocal science to see, hear and feel the shifts that create memorable characters and powerful acting moments.
It gives them the tools ahead of time, so that when they are performing they have access to a much wider range of vocal options.
Because here’s the hot take: No amount of emotion or feeling is going to make muscle do something it doesn’t know how to do. And forcing students through this process is not only unfair, but can be traumatic, and lead to the story of “I have a bad voice”.
“Everyone has a beautiful voice… you just need to learn how to use it!”
– Jo Estill
Yes, tone deafness is a real medical condition – but it is much, much more rare than most people think. In the workshop we demonstrate the difference between being tone deaf and simply lacking confidence in matching pitch (which is a much more common and easily improved challenge).
In this inspiring 3-hour workshop we'll explore three key skills for singing without fear:

Hearing & Matching Pitch
So that you know you are singing in tune.

Vocal Production
So you can let your voice soar. Get the sounds in your head out into the world. Learn world class tools for range, volume and tone.

Confidence and Mindset
Myth busting, practice strategies and overcoming performance anxiety.
All you need to bring are your questions and a positive attitude.
There will be an opportunity for a short live coaching in front of the group at the end of the workshop for any volunteers who would like to take this up, but this is completely voluntary.

Hi Scot, thank you for the wonderful workshop last Sunday. I do believe I can sing. I get around the house singing all the time now.

I attended the 11.00-2.00 workshop on Sunday and want to thank you so much for your commitment of time and energy. I was very nervous but felt immediately at ease with you and thoroughly enjoyed the day, having lots of fun and gaining confidence to try to sing.
You are a wonderful teacher!
I am having a serious discussion with that ‘can’t, you’re no good’ voice in the back of my head and when I’ve shut it up a bit more I will be in touch to talk about the possibility of lessons as I know that if I don’t I’ll always regret not learning to sing.
