Make your next audition bold, confident and fun!

Do you have a musical theatre audition coming up? Want to leave a lasting impression that sets you apart?

Join the Musical Theatre Vocal Audition Workshop this Wednesday night in Hamilton and get practical tools, hands-on coaching, and the clarity to walk into your next audition feeling excited, not intimidated.

In the workshop we’ll explore 6 practical tools to help you deliver a confident, memorable audition. Volunteers will have the opportunity to have their auditions coached live in the room, and you’ll get to see the massive impact small shifts can make as they’re coached in front of you. You’ll gain key insights into what creative teams are looking for and best practices to impress right from the start.

This workshop isn’t about “correctness”, fear, judgment, or competition. Instead we'll learn together and lift each other up. Everyone will be cheering you on.

This is an opportunity to bring joy back into the audition process, and take back your power in the audition room.

Simple Steps to Stand Out

We’ll start with 6 practical steps you can take to leave a standout impression. These steps will help you move from feeling nervous to self-conscious to empowered and actual enjoyment!

Live Audition Coaching

We’ll workshop auditions on the spot, showing how small, thoughtful changes can completely transform how your audition is perceived. You’ll learn from watching others and, if you’re ready, you can try it out yourself.

Myth-Busting Q&A

✔️ “What are they really thinking behind the table?”

✔️ “Should I dress in character?”

✔️ “Should I look at the director when I perfrom?”

Every audition panel is different, but while we’re not mind-readers, there are trends and general preferences across most audition experiences. Bring your audition doubts, fears, and burning questions—we’ll clear them all up.

Why now?

With Bonnie and Clyde auditions happening this weekend and many more auditions coming just around the corner, there’s never been a better time to:

• Build your confidence.

• Make bold choices.

• Own your time in the audition room and actually enjoy the experience.

Hey there, I'm Scot.

I help Waikato performers develop world-class performance skills so that they can go from super-fans to emerging professionals and leaders in their performance community.

Alongside 10 years of teaching voice, I have had an active career as a musical theatre performer and director.

Recent roles include Frollo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Javert in Les Miserables and Mr Banks in Mary Poppins.

Recent directorial projects include The Little Mermaid, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Urinetown, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Pippin and Fame.

My background as a working performer and director allows me to blend technical knowledge of the voice with artistry to cultivate outstanding performances.

Equally experienced in front of and behind the casting table I have unique insights into what makes a singer a must-have cast member.

My teaching is heavily influenced by the work of Jo Estill. Attending Estill Voice Training courses with internationally recognised expert teachers Anne-Marie Speed and Paul Farrington revolutionised the way I think about what is possible with the voice.

When you can identify the tiny shifts in the physical structures behind the sound, it’s like being able to see inside “The Matrix” – nothing is out of reach! As Jo famously said:

"Everyone has a beautiful voice, you just need to learn how to use it"

I have designed this audition intensive to help passionate performers go from fear and anxiety to enjoyment and play, and take back their power in the audition room.

Through playful practice we can turn off judgment, self-consciousness, and fear...

... and replace them with presence, truthfulness and enjoyment.

Hey there, I'm Scot.

I help Waikato performers develop world-class performance skills so that they can go from super-fans to emerging professionals and leaders in their performance community.

I have designed this three-day intensive workshop to give passionate Waikato performers access to essential tools for their actor's toolboxes.

Over the course of the workshop participants will stretch and explore their acting technique in a focused and intensive environment.

For me, technique is all about access.

Access to:

  • Voice
  • Body
  • Emotion
  • Imagination
  • Presence
  • Spontaneity

You will get vital practice interpreting scripts, taking direction, and working with other actors.

And have fun doing it!

Through playful practice we can turn off judgment, self-consciousness, and fear...

... and replace them with presence, truthfulness and spontaneity.

The fundamental skills of action-ing and pursuing powerful character objectives can never be practiced too much, and the result is compelling, rich performances without the angst and self-consciousness.
