Opening Up

The sun is shining brighter, people are smiling wider (behind their masks!), friends - we've made it through to another gorgeous New Zealand Summer. 

It has been such a delight to be back in Waikato theatres enjoying some of the amazing talent and creativity on display.

December's highlights for me were Bold Theatre's Assasins and Wintec Music and Performing Arts students' Little Shop of Horrors - fantastic work everyone!

Well done to everyone who auditioned for Blood Brothers and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang last month! 👏

Here's this month's audition bulletin, tips from me, and a special training opportunity. 

Upcoming Auditions

BOLD Theatre are bringing this 2015 punk-rock musical based on the life of Kate Sheppard to Hamilton in 2022.

Auditions for the role of Kate took place in October this year, and an audition date for the rest of the production will be announced soon. 

Audition Tips:

We'll know more once offical audition requirements come out - but you don't want to be caught out if there's a small window between announcement and auditions. Here are my tips for getting ahead with your preparation:

• Listen to the cast album (Spotify, Apple Music)
• Read the synopsis and show history
• Choose audition material that captures the rebellious spirit of the show. Consider contemporary song options from outside of musical theatre. 
• BUT remember that your individuality is your biggest advantage. Don't get lost in trying to "out-punk" everyone. Your ability to connect to the message of your song and tell a story that matters to you is what will make you stand out. 

Training Opportunity

Want to grow your acting skills while being supported and challenged by other passionate performers looking to take their skills to the next level?

This three-day intensive workshop at the stunning Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts features a highly practical introduction to the Stanislavski system, and explores spontaneity and truthfulness in improvisation and scripted works. There is a strong focus on developing your actor's tools - voice, body and imagination. 

Let's get you up on your feet and practicing your craft! Learn functional techniques to help you replace self-consciousness with presence, so you can be fully in the moment.
